Talent Obviously Runs In The Ambrosius Family

Now we all should know who Marsha Ambrosius is, I know I was a huge fan of Floetry when they were active within the music industry and was all geared up to see them on their UK tour, just before it was cancelled and announced they had parted ways. I was gutted!

Anyway, onto the subject of Marsha’s very own brother Marvin, who I have also been a huge fan of for what seems like forever, since he was in the group Kinettik anyway and ‘Soulasystem’ blessed our airwaves. I swear I spent the longest amount of time trying to track down that song numerous years ago, until I finally got my hands on a copy.

Now it seems that Marvin or Ambrosius as he is simply known is branching out on his own, with a new album out very soon and a freshly surfaced song he has very kindly blessed music fans with, we have another gem from the rather talented Ambrosius family to feast our lugholes around. Marvin has certainly not left me disappointed, in fact, he has even sampled one of my favourite songs from the 1990’s (Olive’s ‘You’re Not Alone’) on this gem. If you like what you hear below, then you too can download this song from Marvin’s website simply via registering. Enjoy!

NOTHING TOPS THE 1990’S FOR MUSIC

I grew up in the 1990’s and it’s a fact that the charts had some of the best R&B/Hip Hop music back then, nothing could touch the likes of En Vogue; Eternal (who were British); TLC; Aaliyah; Ginuwine; Missy Elliott; Timbaland; Bell Biv Devoe; Mary J. Blige; Boyz II Men and many others besides. Music these days just seems to be thrown together, which definitely isn’t my thing and more thought seemed to go into creating the best music back in the 1990’s. I’ve seen comments from many other people saying the exact same thing, that the 1990’s provided some of the best music in a variety of genres, not just R&B and Hip Hop.

Below is just a small selection of some of my favourite songs from this amazing decade for music. Enjoy!

Bell Biv Devoe – Poison

Eternal – Stay

Ginuwine – What’s So Different?

Aaliyah – Are You That Somebody

SHYSTIE HEADBANGS HER WAY BACK TO THE TOP

Now I’ve been a huge fan of Shystie’s work for what seems like forever, she just knows how to keep you on your toes while delivering that hit song after hit song. But it still baffles me at how underrated this very talented lady is, especially considering the amount of pure quality songs Shystie has delivered to the masses. I could go on all day about the recognition this artist deserves, I could easily write an essay or two about what Shystie brings to the industry and how her previous label didn’t promote her work enough, but I shall let the music speak for itself.

The lady herself has unleashed a snippet of a new song, ‘Headbanger’, which is produced by the Fireworkz, who Shystie has worked with previously and I am left wanting to hear more, it really is that good. This year has to be the year that Shystie breaks big in the industry, we all know she’s worked too damn hard for this. Enjoy the snippet of the new song below and head on over to chat to Shystie on Twitter, letting her know your thoughts on the latest snippet.

Szjerdene Continues To Showcase Her Talent

Now I have not only interviewed this very talented lady previously on Sexy Never Left, but I also told you that she is a talent within the UK to watch out for and I was not wrong. Szjerdene very kindly hooked me up to her latest song, which she premiered to her growing fan base recently. This is an artist who consistently seems to deliver quality music and with her said to be working on her upcoming EP, titled ‘Patchwork’, we have better things to come by the sounds of it.

Now, sit back and enjoy this little slice of something special, all thanks to Szjerdene herself for being so damn talented. Enjoy!

Lupe Fiasco Continues To Shine

Lupe Fiasco is a talent within music I truly respect, not only is he a writer (like myself), but he is very good at it. It’s rare to have someone in music who consistently delivers amazing song after amazing song; Lupe is one of those rare breeds of talent who does just that. I am definitely very excited to hear ‘Lasers’, Lupe’s upcoming masterpiece that is due to hit the shelves on March 8th or the day before, if you’re from the UK like myself.

Now a new song from Lupe’s upcoming project has surfaced and yet again, he showcases himself as one of the best lyricists of our generation. Sit back and enjoy!

Lupe Fiasco – All Black Everything

Bilal Levels The Musical Playing Field

Bilal latest offering within music, ‘Airtight’s Revenge’, is easily one of the best albums within the past year for me, pure quality from beginning to finish and is exactly how music should sound, in my opinion anyway, which will no doubt differ from many other people out there who prefer a completely different sound within music.

I’m not going to go into too much detail on the following video, which Bilal premiered around a week or so ago, other than it seems to have a very psychedelic feel to it and definitely takes your imagination to a new dimension, if you can actually figure out what’s going on in the video. But sometimes you don’t need a music video with a story behind it, this is art in its truest form, sit back and enjoy!

Bilal – Levels

Mayer Hawthorne's Green Eyed Love Affair

Mayer Hawthorne is an artist I have been paying close attention to ever since I first heard his amazing song, ‘I Wish It Would Rain’, which is such a great chill out song and sounds like Mayer has taken lessons from some of the professionals in Soul music from back in the day. The more I listen to this guys music, the more I want to hear more and no doubt there is a lot more amazing material to come from the likes of Mayer in the future.

Here are two videos for you to check out, which should definitely give you a little more insight into this very talented artist.

John Lennon Had That Special Gift

I am a huge John Lennon fan, not only because the man was a creative genius, but also because he was the breath of fresh air that the industry needed, nothing was ever too much trouble to him. He created music simply for the love of it and boy; he was good at it. Yes, he was around within music way before my time, but he definitely made a huge impact within my life, not only as a music lover, but as a writer, the man could turn his hand to anything, he had a God given gift that made people eat from the palm of his hands.

Even though John was before my time, he has made a huge imprint within my life and I often find myself listening to his music, while wondering what his music would sound like, if he was still with us. I always come to the same conclusion, it would be amazing, something that would stand the test of time and be around for years to come, pretty much like the music he created before he was so cruelly snatched away from his family; his fans; from the world of music. John Lennon is easily one of my heroes, along with Freddie Mercury, who was also taken far before his time. They just had that something special, that gift that you need within music in order to stand the test of time, so that their music would live long after they have passed.

I always stated that along with George Harrison, John Lennon was easily my favourite member of The Beatles, he was talented, but he had his own creative way of accomplishing his dreams, creating hits from some of the most quirky pieces of writing that music has ever seen and no matter how many people try to mirror themselves upon this man, there was and will always be only one John Lennon, a true genius who was taken far before his time. As well as an established poet, John was also a very talented artist and often created little pieces for his own solo work. Art was actually his first love, way before he took his work with The Beatles seriously; he actually studied for Art at the Liverpool Art Institute for three years, from 1957 until 1960.

It’s my pleasure to introduce you to the work of a very talented friend of mine, who adores The Beatles and John Lennon just as much as I do. Vive has a very special gift and has been showcasing her talents for quite some time now and therefore decided to merge for this one project, where we would be able to talk about the master within music, John Lennon and what his work means to us. You can view Vive’s take on John Lennon and his music by clicking here, which will take you to the talented lady’s (and a great friend of mine) site.

Below are two of my favourite John Lennon songs, which you can click on to watch and witness how natural music came to John, who is very missed within music. Enjoy!

Terri Walker Keeps Us On Our Toes

I’ve told many of you before that I am a huge fan of Terri Walker’s music, have been since before her debut album was released and it still to this very day surprises me that she is one of the most underrated talents within the UK music scene, considering how much talent she has.

Well, after dangling that golden carrot in front of us a few weeks back, it seems that the talented lady is back with the official video to the incredible, ‘So Hard’, the first single to be taken from Terri’s upcoming project, ‘Mz Walker’, which will hit shops on May 3rd of this year and boy, I am certainly looking forward to this album. Terri certainly knows how to keep her fans sweet, that’s for sure.

The Future Of Music: Obenewa

Obenewa is a talented songstress from the UK who certainly has what it takes to be huge within the music scene; it’s just such a shame that this kind of music doesn’t take centre focus more often, especially when there’s talent like this floating around the industry.

Having released her official mixtape, ‘Therapy’, a while back, Obenewa is gearing up for the release of her new EP, which is coming up later this month. The lady herself will be showcasing her talents at the Tabernacle in London on February 27th, so if you’re in the area, be sure to check out this amazing talent.

In the meantime, here is a short video clip that the talented Obenewa released recently, closely followed by the promotional video for her song ‘Obsessed’, both should definitely give you more of an insight into her music and talent. Enjoy!

Joya Mooi Has A Pact With The Sun

This is my kind of music right here and I can’t believe that I’d never even heard of this artist, until the equally talented Mar (who I absolutely adore) tweeted about her. Anyway, better late discovering the talented sounds of this artist than never, as they say.

The Netherlands seem to be really churning some amazing music just lately and this proves it, we definitely need more of this taking centre focus within such a dry music industry, where getting your bits out seems to be the ‘norm’ these days. Whatever happened to talent alone selling records?

Joya’s album ‘Hard Melk’ was out last year and is definitely worth checking out, you can purchase the masterpiece by clicking here.

Memory Lane: Tha’ Rayne

It still baffles me to this very day that Tha’ Rayne went virtually unrecognised within the music industry, despite boasting so much talent and churning out some pretty amazing material. Yummy Bingham has such a distinctive voice and it’s that which initially caught my attention all those years ago. With the right people handling their career, Tha’ Rayne could have easily been a big name within the industry, but again (like many times before and after), we saw talented artists not being given the credit and recognition that they deserved.

Below is one of Tha’ Rayne’s most recognised songs, closely followed by the music video for Yummy Bingham, who left the group back in 2004 to pursue her own career in music.

Tha’ Rayne – Didn’t You Know

Yummy Bingham – Come Get It (feat. Jadakiss)

Lupe Teases Us With Lasers

Lupe Fiasco’s upcoming project ‘Lasers’ is turning out to be an album I am truly looking forward to, not only because he’s a lyricist within the music industry who means business, but also because you know that when Lupe puts a project out there, it’s going to be beyond amazing. March 8th is definitely a date to ink on your calendar, this year is turning out to be just as great as last year for music, if not better.
