Incredible: Raphael Saadiq

Raphael Saadiq released one of the best albums last year, in the form of his incredible ‘The Way I See It’. If you haven't checked out the album already, I would defnitely recommend it to you.

Here he is with a recent performance that he did.

Raphael Saadiq – 100 Yard Dash (Live On Dancing With The Stars)

Britain's Got Talent

So the TV talent search Britain’s Got Talent is proving interesting this year, with many talented acts going through to the live stages of the show. Already on the fourth live semi final show tonight, we saw another two acts go through to the live final on Saturday. I have one issue with the show so far though, Gareth Oliver should have gone through to the finals with his ventriloquist act; he obviously has a lot of skill. Also a lot of criticism has been on Susan Boyle as well, who is one of the favourites to win this series. The woman has talent, so people should leave her to do what she does best, which is sing. Susan seems like a lovely person too.

The first video is from Gareth Oliver, who didn’t make the final, but should have. You can view the following performances by clicking on them, so I shall let the performances enjoyed so far do the talking.

Star: Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine Sullivan has had a pretty big year since the release of her debut album last year, an album that was definitely being waited upon by fans of hers that had built up over a number of years previous to that. Even though her debut was only out last year, it would be great to see her follow up album. No doubt, it would be fantastic. The material from before she released any albums was amazing, if you haven’t checked it out, as mentioned previously I would definitely recommend it to you.

Here are a couple of live performances that Jazmine did recently for Taratata in France.

Jazmine Sullivan – Bust Your Windows (Live At Taratata)

Jazmine Sullivan – Kiss From A Rose (Live At Taratata)

Keeping Us On Our Toes: Maxwell

Maxwell has been keeping his fans waiting for new material for what feels like a lot longer than what it has been, anyway the wait is almost over, as his new project is due out on July 7th, so be sure to check out. It’ll have been worth the wait.

In the meantime, here is the cover for the upcoming release.

Star: Chrisette Michele

Finally this amazing talent is receiving some love within the music industry. Her debut album a couple of years ago went virtually unrecognised, but fans of her work knew different and that she would be huge one day. Chrisette’s second album, ‘Epiphany’, has rocketed to the top of the USA charts. This is great news.

On that news, here is a live performance which she recently did.

Chrisette Michele – Epiphany (Live On Jimmy Fallon)

Queen Of British Soul: Beverley Knight

Beverley Knight is coming back this year with her sixth studio album and it seems a song has surfaced, needless to say it’s a great song and should give people an insight as what to expect with the upcoming project. Beverley is someone who consistently delivers great material, proving that she is indeed one of the best names within British music.

On the subject of the new song, it is apparently produced by the one and only Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. So knowing that, the album should be very interesting and will be worth every penny. Anyway, I shall let the music do the talking with a radio rip of a new song.

Beverley Knight – Every Step

Memory Lane: Puff Johnson

Puff Johnson is an American singer/songwriter and a very talented one at that, since hitting the music scene in the 1990’s she has not released anything further in music, but she has been seen on credits of songs written, most notably on the debut album of Leela James.

Back in the 1990’s music really was great and this girls music always stood out, her music had substance, but to top it all off she had a fantastic voice. Music really was great in the 1990’s. A new album from this artist would be welcomed with open arms.

Here is one of her videos, which showcases exactly why this artist was always great.

Puff Johnson – Forever More

Future Star: Lei-an

Lei-an is a British singer/songwriter and a very promising one at that, having received much attention from the likes of 1Xtra, etc. But the attention she is currently receiving lies mainly in Japan, where she has apparently picked up a bit of a fanbase. All being well, her album will see light of day here, as she is an amazing talent and definitely has a promising career ahead of her.

Here is one of her videos, which should give you a little more insight into how good this artist is.

Lei-an – Imagine

Incredibly Underrated: UnkleJam

UnkleJam are a British group that I’ve loved for absolutely ages now and still, their work is pretty unknown within music, which is definitely a great shame. Their label didn’t seem to promote them correctly, which is a familiar story with a few artists around at the moment, so no wonder they kind of slipped under the radar. But still, if you like quality music with a splash of Funk and Soul in it, you should have come across their work – which is incredibly infectious and is bound to get you up dancing at the stiffest of parties.

It would be great to see these guys sign with a label that could put the effort into promoting their work. Maybe then talent might get some recognition for a change. In the meantime, here is one of their videos for you to take a peek at.

UnkleJam – Love Ya

Finally: Teedra Moses

So I have Jennifer over at her amazing site, 'Adventures Of An Audio Diva’, to thank for this little heads up right here. Otherwise I would have been completely unaware of this exciting upcoming project from the one and only, Teedra Moses.

Now if you’re familiar with her work, you’ll already know that her debut ‘Complex Simplicity’ was out some time ago, quite a while ago actually. So as you can probably imagine, the follow up is definitely being waited upon by her legions of fans out there. This girl usually brings the goods and with collaborations with Raphael Saadiq and Raheem DeVaughn, you just know that this project should be something special. Finally, we seem to have a release month for this exciting project, Teedra mentions in the video I post below that it will be released around August time, so be sure to save your pennies up, as no doubt this artist will be delivering another amazing album. This is certainly something to keep your eyes open for.

Anyway, as mentioned above. Here is a video of Teedra Moses being interviewed by SoulCulture.

This artist is certainly someone to watch out for in the near future.

Incredibly Underrated: V (Valvin Roane)

Valvin Roane II or V as he is known within music is an artist who continues to remain incredibly underrated within music, even though he has set some pretty solid foundations within the industry. This is an artist who has worked with many individuals within music, including DJ Jazzy Jeff; Will Smith; Justin Timberlake; Musiq Soulchild; Heather Headley; Anthony Hamilton and obviously, Jill Scott herself. Some people may even recognise this artist as one of her backing singers from her tours, as well as performances on some of the big shows on TV.

If you haven’t heard anything from this artist yet, then I recommend his album ‘The Revelation Is Now Televised’. I placed his name in brackets as there’s a boyband with the name V, so it saves some confusion. You can hear more music and find out more on this artist by clicking here.
