Star: Duffy

Duffy has had a pretty amazing career so far and with the release of her debut album last year, she has gone from strength to strength proving that she is a talent that will be around in music for a very long time. Last Wednesday was no different, as Duffy took to the stage of the 2009 Brit Awards to collect three awards (‘British Female Solo Artist’, ‘British Breakthrough Act’ and ‘Mastercard British Album’) that she had just scooped. Later in the evening she showcased exactly why it was that she had cleared up on the night with a performance that left music fans wanting more. The entire evening was a night of Duffy, as viewers saw her walking up from the table where she had previously sat to collect yet more awards, by the final award she was almost in tears as she tried to put into words what this all meant to her. Her next album should be just as amazing, Duffy we cannot wait.

On another note, it was during the advertisement break within this show that the latest Diet Coke advert was broadcast, which low and behold had Duffy endorsing their brand of drink. A great advert, here it is for you to take a look at.

Gary Go is a British singer/songwriter who had an early glimpse at music when watching his cousin is bands, it was his cousin who got him further involved with music when he was given a keyboard, with this he began to write songs. It was after leaving school that he worked in a recording studio, making tea and setting up equipment, which led him into doing his own thing within music.

The first single to come from this artist is actually very good, once you hear it you probably won’t be able to stop humming along to it, you’ll find it’s in your head pretty much most of the time. A sign of a great record.

Anthoney Wright is a British singer/songwriter influenced by the likes of Al Green, Teddy Pendergrass, etc. Founder of Reverb Music, Ian Wright, heard him singing and immediately signed him to the company. Until Ian’s passing over a year ago, the two worked closely together forming a strong bond over their mutual love for music. Ian left strict instructions on how to help Anthoney succeed in music before he passed away, since then the song has been picked up by radio and a star is already being talked of. This is certainly a talent to watch out for within music, 2009 looks as though it’s going to be another amazing year for British talent.

Brit Awards 2009

So this years Brit Awards took place recently and it proved to be a great night for British music again, which has been making the news a lot lately, what with Coldplay and Adele scooping awards in the USA, Leona Lewis claiming the first number one in the USA in over two decades, it has been a pretty big year for British music. The stars of the night were the likes of Coldplay, Duffy, Kings Of Leon, Estelle, etc. The most unlikely collaboration came in the form of the Ting Tings and Estelle who performed a joint medley, you wouldn’t have thought they’d go together, but the collaboration worked well.

It did come as a shock that Coldplay didn’t win one award on the night though, seeing as they had one of the biggest albums of last year and provided an amazing performance on the night. It was nice to see Duffy getting some recognition, it would have been nice to see Adele and Coldplay claim an award.

In the meantime, here are some of the best performances of the night.

The Ting Tings & Estelle – Shut Up And Let Me Go/American Boy/That’s Not My Name (Medley)

Duffy – Warwick Avenue

Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody

Coldplay – Viva La Vida

THE 2009 GRAMMY AWARDS

So, this years Grammy Awards took place over the past few days and apart from it being a fantastic night for British talent within music, the night seems as though it was truly a bore. It’s great that Adele picked up an award, it’s also great that Coldplay received some more love. The night had a couple of great performances in the form of Jennifer Hudson (who is amazing) and Coldplay. It’s a shame that Jazmine Sullivan didn’t get a look in with an award, one award for her would have been nice.

Here are a couple of standout performances from the night, as well as Adele sharing her thought backstage.

Colplay – Lost/Viva La Vida (feat. Jay-Z) (2009 Grammy Awards)

Jennifer Hudson – You Pulled Me Through (2009 Grammy Awards)
